Stereotypes have lead me to an identity crisis. In school in Japan most only saw me as an American not Japanese. Making me an outsider. Sometimes people ignore my Japanese side of me. Questions like where are you from becoming hard to answer. However in SAS, my old school the question meant where are places that mean something to you that you feel connected with. I could easily say my mother is Japanese my father is American with other origins in his family. I am from Singapore. Singapore is where I grown up and feel most connected with.
Stereotypes put people in boxes. Making you think you can’t go out, can’t relate to another, someone is only one thing. This video shows a way to defy stereotypes and to make you mind to understand.
Online there are many videos of people starting off in boxes then shown similarities between boxes. Please do look at them.
Have you ever viewed a person in some way without actually trying to understand them?
